VAIL MOUNTAIN - If you really want to know what to do in Vail, put down the glossy tourism bureau magazine and find a local.

People who live and work in a tourist destination are the best source for travel advice. They've tried it all, gimmicky and not, and can speak with intelligence on restaurants, kid friendly places, hotels, and in Vail's case, where to find the best powder stashes. It's advice that adds up to a more genuine experience.

On Friday, locals from the California wine country - most of them winemakers - gathered at the top of Vail Mountain for Taste of Vail's Mountain Top Picnic. It was the perfect opportunity to pick their brain about Napa and Sonoma. Here's what these insiders had to say:

St. Helena, Ca. – Mar. 9 (Sullivan Vineyards)– We are very proud to announce Sullivan Vineyards was one of twelve wineries chosen by top Napa Valley vintners and wine professionals in a double blind tasting to represent 2002, 2003 & 2004 vintages for a Private Perspective Tasting. The Napa Valley wines were presented to the press the day before the eleventh annual Premiere Napa Valley. Pouring a vertical of our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Sullivan’s wines proved exceptional among such world-class producers as Shafer, Grgich, Monticello and Frog’s Leap. Great exposure for Sullivan!

On Saturday, February 24 2007, the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena hosted over 600 members of the wine trade and media who gathered to taste premiere Napa Valley wines and rub elbows with 192 participating Napa Valley Vintners. This year, more than $2.1 million was raised for NVV’s worldwide marketing programs promoting the Napa Valley Appellation.

Sullivan Vineyards was pleased to be an outstanding participant this year. And we helped raise $5500 with 5-case lot winner Tom Jacob, owner of Jacob Liquor Exchange in Wichita, KS.
